Anyone familiar with the work of Pierre Marchal will recognize some of his preferences. He scratch-builds his subjects. He prefers to work in 1:350 scale, instead of 1:400 scale which is more popular in France. For subjects he likes warships of the Marine Nationale and the USN of World War Two. Here is Pierre's build of the USS Alaska CB-1, Large Cruiser in 1:350 scale. Many call this design the last hurrah of the battle cruiser and others go by the official designation of large cruiser. It really is a question of semantics since the battle cruiser was originally the evolution of the armored cruiser and the ships (battle cruisers) were at first called armored cruisers.
