The USS Arkansas Class of monitors was the last class of this type of ship to be built for the United States Navy. They were the only monitors to bear the names of states because they were originally considered capital ships. However, they were subsequently renamed to city names to free the original names for true battleship construction. The newest 1:350 scale kit from Box 261 is the USS Arkansas. The following photographs show two shots of the prototype Box 261 USS Arkansas. It appears that the model was not painted in the right paint scheme, in that it should have a red bottom with a white and buff upper-works scheme, rather than the green bottom with white and gray upper-works. The third photograph is of a postcard of USS Wyoming, one of the class, showing the white and buff paint scheme.
