This is the USS San Francisco CA-38 built in 1:350 scale from a Classic Warships kit. This was built on a commission from Jack Wallace, son of the former crewmember LTJG John Wallace. LTJG Wallace was aboard the San Francisco during the famous barroom brawl that was the Naval Battle of Guadacanal on the night of November 13, 1942, where he earned the Purple Heart for the wounds he sustained in the action.
The model took about 45 hours to build. It is finished in MS 21 using Floquil navy blue 5-N paint that was lightened up a little. The hull needed to be cut in two and lengthened to mate the upper half. Many extra details were added, as well as boring out the funnels and placing uptakes within them.
