The HMS Royal Sovereign was the first battleships design of the new Director of Naval Construction (DNC) William White. With this design the Royal Navy ended a period of hodge-podge designs and developed a standard battleship design for the next two decades. Gun houses were added to the barbettes of the main guns and the 6-inch secondary battery was placed in casemates in following classes but the overall design remained true to the pattern established by the Royal Sovereign. Peter Fulgoney has built HMS Royal Sovereign as she appeared in her full Victorian splendor in 1892 from the Combrig kit in 1:700 scale.
