Democratie, French Battleship, Fleet Net 1:700 Scale, Built by Bob Cicconi - Here are a few photos of the Fleet Net 1/700 scale Liberte. Bob Cicconi built it as the Democratie, which is actually the subject of the kit, as she was the only one of the four that had the protective bulges on each hull side under the bow anchors. December 21, 2008 Bismarck, Trumpeter 1:700 Scale, Built by Katseas Kostas - This is a commission Katseas Kostas received for a Bismarck in heavy seas, as it was requested by the client. He used as a guide the Trumpeter box art from the Bismarck kit, in texture color and composition. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
December 20, 2008 USS Honolulu CL-48, Corsair Armada 1:700 Scale, Built by Christoph Mentzel - Here are some pictures of the USS Honolulu CL-48 as she looked in October 1944 at Leyte Gulf, built by Christoph Mentzel. This is the Corsair Armada kit in 1:700 scale with some parts an old Naval Works kit of the USS Honolulu. Added to the Cruiser Gallery.  (Editor's Note: Contrary to the label, this is a model of USS Honolulu, not HMS Honolulu. The error obviously being the effect of a drunken stupor.)

Featuring fine resin casting, a host of white metal parts and other metal parts, Cottage Industry provides all of the elements for a fine, large model of the ship that proved the superiority of the turret over the then conventional broadside ship. December 10, 2008 Akagi, Three Flight Deck Aircraft Carrier 1927-1935, Hasegawa 1:700 Scale - A must have. I admit it, I like the early Akagi design. That three flight deck design really intrigues me, especially when it is filled with biplanes. Hasegawa has produced an excellent 1:700 scale kit of this impressive one off carrier design as she appeared from 1927 to late 1935. All it needs is a dedicated set of brass photo-etch. Hopefully Hasegawa will follow up with the three flight deck Kaga. Added to the Aircraft Carriers Reviews Section.

With fine resin castings, full brass photo-etch frets and multi-color decals, the kit provides everything needed for a fine model of this unique three-stacked design. December 3, 2008 USS Laffey DD-459 1942, Benson Class Destroyer, Dragon 1:350 Scale - Dragon has dropped the next shoe in their 1:350 scale USN WWII destroyer lineup. Now you can have a square-stacked, flat faced, 1942 fit Benson class USS Laffey DD-459 in 1:350 scale to join the round stack, round face, 1942 fit Gleaves class USS Buchanan, as they both fought at the Battle of Cape Esperance on October 11, 1942. The Clapham Junction fit of HMS Outrageous--- er--- HMS Courageous 1917-1918 provides a kit for a 20,000-ton fast minelayer, nee large light cruiser, prima facie light battle cruiser. Casting detail ranges the field from superb to superb, complemented with a full photo-etch fret, brass main gun barrels and masts, metal anchor chain, and a colorful decal sheet. November 12, 2008 Liberte 1908, The Penultimate French Predreadnought Design, FleetNet 1:700 Scale - With the 1:700 scale Liberte FleetNet provides a very good kit of the penultimate French predreadnought battleship design. The kit provides error free castings of good to excellent quality. There is no brass photo-etch fret but generic photo-etch parts can remedy this deficiency. Added to the Battleship Reviews Section. 
November 10, 2008 The Great White Fleet Exhibit, Grand Central Station NYC, October 7 through 19, 2008 - As part of the Columbus Day celebrations; (10/7 - 10/19) an exhibition entitled "The Great White Fleet" was held in Vanderbilt Hall in New York City’s Grand Central Station. Although, now gone, John Collier captured the moment. Added to the Museum Gallery in the Ship Tours Section. 
November 9, 2008 HMS Iron Duke 1918, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Katseas Kostas - Katseas Kostas considers the Combrig 1:700 scale HMS Iron Duke to be a very sharp kit. He was not sure about the boat at the rear superstructure but it looks nice so that he decided to leave it there. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
November 8, 2008 USS Becuna SS-319, Guppy Conversion - The Navy program to modernize the Gato, Balao and Tench class WWII submarines was given the acronym GUPPY (Greater Underwater Propulsive Power). In addition to removal of deck guns and other protuberances, the conning tower was covered with a streamlined sail structure which housed the snorkel and other masts, and the bow reshaped. This kit is really well put together but we modelers are never happy with just a painted piece of plastic nowadays, so to embellish it Jose Soca used Flyhawk's Yamashiro super detail photo-etch set. October 24, 2008 USS Essex CV9, SCB-27A Fit 1952, Iron Shipwright 1:700 Scale - The Iron Shipwright SCB-27A USS Essex is a nice but not excellent kit. Casting is good but not perfect, as there are some voids and broken parts. The Chainsaw flight deck has outstanding detail that is carried off very well in plastic. Photo-etch is good but not excellent. The instructions are clearly sub-par and will need to be supplemented for complete assembly. However, this kit can make into a very attractive model of one of the major fits of the Essex class. Added to the Aircraft Carriers Reviews Section.

October 21, 2008 Curtiss F7C-1 Seahawk, Fighter - Curtiss chose to use the new Wasp radial engine for their next fighter design for the navy after their in-line engine used for the F6C. This new design was the Curtiss F7C-1 Seahawk. The Seahawk also featured fuel tanks on each side of the fuselage. Added to the Naval Aviation Gallery in the Ship Tours Section.
October 20, 2008 Admiral Ushakov, Ex-Kirov, Russian Rocket Cruiser, Trumpeter 1:350 Scale, Review by Bob Carr - Trumpeter’s Admiral Ushakov is big, detailed, and certainly conveys the impression of the famous battle cruiser. Unfortunately, the kit is a mixture of features from both the Ushakov and the Frunze and will require some scratch-building to correctly complete as the Ushakov/Kirov. October 18, 2008 Al Hani, Libyan Frigate, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Brett Morrow - This is a 1/700 scale resin kit of the Al Hani produced by Combrig from Russia, this manufacturer also produces the three other variants of this class, the Russian prototype `Delfin`,the Yugoslav `Beograd` and the Algerian `Rais Corso`, these are the only models of this class produced in any scale. October 17, 2008 Preview of USS Intrepid, SCB-125 Angled Deck Essex Class, Ships & Company 1:700 Scale - Ships & Company are preparing to release their own 1:700 scale SCB-125 angled deck Essex, the USS Intrepid. October 15, 2007 USS Northampton CLC-1, Command Cruiser, Imperial Hobby Productions 1:700 Scale - IHP presents most of the fixuns for a delicious dinner of the CLC-1 USS Northampton. This one-off large command cruiser served for almost two decades as a fleet command ship and its increased freeboard and towering superstructure makes a truly unique appearance in the 1950s and 1960s USN fleet. The IHP Northampton can use photo-etch and in keeping with the Craftsman type of model, the Northampton provides good but not spectacular resin castings. Added to the Cruiser Reviews Section. 
October 14, 2008 Montcalm, French Light Cruiser 1952 in Along Bay, H-P Model 1:700 Scale, Built by Nicolas Dupont - This is the Light Cruiser Montcalm in 1952 in Along Bay, built by Nicolas Dupont. It was a model in 1:700 scale from H-P Model, accessorized with L'Arsenal parts. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 

 
October 12, 2008 USS Hopkins DD-7, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale, Built by Felix Bustelo - Here are some photos of Felix Bustelo's build of the Iron Shipwright USS Hopkins DD-7 kit. It is a great little kit which captures the lines and the distinctive turtleback bow of this class of early US Navy destroyers. Added to the Destroyer Gallery. 
October 10, 2008 Curtiss F6C-1 Hawk, 1925 Fighter/Dive Bomber - The most famous line of aircraft for the Curtiss Aircraft Company were called the "Hawks" in that the different models ended in Hawk. The F6C Hawk was ordered by the USN in March 1925, the same month in which the navy's first aircraft carrier, USS Langley CV-1, first participated in fleet exercises. October 2, 2008 USS Buchanan DD-484 September 2, 1945, Gleaves Class Destroyer, Dragon Cyber-Hobby 1:350 Scale - The Dragon 1:350 scale USS Buchanan 1942 kit was the best detailed injected plastic warship kit produced in that scale when released. With the USS Buchanan 1945 kit, Dragon and Cyber-Hobby have taken it a step further. Not only do you get all of the detail of the earlier kit but also you get parts to portray the ship on September 2, 1945 at the surrender ceremony in this limited edition kit.
