December 23, 2010 Huascar 1866, Peruvian Ironclad Turret Ship, Combrig 1:700 Scale - Combrig has produced a 1:700 scale model of one of the first ironclads built with a turret designed by Captain Cowpers Coles. The Peruvian ironclad Huascar was for a time the most powerful warship in Latin America . Seized in battle by Chile in 1879, the ship is still in existence as a museum in honor of the navies of both Chile and Peru . Before starting construction, decide which fit that you wish to model. December 21, 2010 USS Keokuk 1863, Flagship Models 1:192 Scale - With the Flagship Models USS Keokuk the modeler gets a 1:192nd scale model of one of the more bizarre ironclad designs of the American Civil War. With a turtle back hull, fixed armored gun towers and prominent ram, no one will mistake the fighting Keokuk for a plain Jane monitor. All the parts are present in resin, white metal and relief-etched brass for a waterline or full hull version of this ill fated ironclad. Added to the American Civil War Reviews Section.

December 17, 2010 Gneisenau in Norway 1944, Redesigned and Rebuilt with 15-Inch Gun Turrets, HP-Models 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Christoph Mentzel - H-P Models has produced a 1:700 scale model of Gneisenau as she would have appeared if her rebuild with 15-Inch guns and a longer bow would have been completed. Cristoph Mentzel built the kit as part of a diorama of Gneisenau in Norway in 1944. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 
December 15, 2010 Mikasa 1904, 1:550 Scale, Scratch-Built by Greg Shoda - These are photos of Greg Shoda's latest project. He built this model of the IJN Mikasa in 1/550 scale card. The work took about 3 months off and on. It was based upon simple drawings Greg found in a Japanese book. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
December 14, 2010 HMS Agincourt 1917, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Kostas Katseas - Kostas Katseas has done another magnificent job with his construction of the Combrig 1:700 scale model of HMS Agincourt. The fit reflects her appearance in late 1917. The original flying bridges amidship and aft tripod have been removed but the Gin Palace still retains the tall amidship derrick. December 10, 2010 HMS Hood 1941, Tamiya 1:700 Scale, Built by Zenden Ng - Zenden Ng built the Tamiya 1:700 scale HMS Hood primarily out of the box but with some rigging. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
December 9. 2010 USS Arizona Brass Barrel Set, Master Model 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - Mini-Hobbies and most recently the Hobby Boss label have released an 1:350 Scale USS Arizona and there are plenty of photo-etch sets out there to help overcome the kits' shortcomings.  So with some good modeling skills and good brass you would make a winner of this kit with a bit of work and TLC. December 8, 2010 Dunkerque at Mers-El-Kebir 1940, Samek 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Christoph Mentzel - Christoph Mentzel built a harbour diorama of Mers-El-Kebir, which he had seen a nice picture of at that time. To the Samek kit he have added several photo-etch parts from L'Arsenal like the new catapult, parts for the Loire seaplane and the Valeur-Honneur-Discipline-Patrie logos from the French Navy.  Added to the Diorama Gallery. 
December 7, 2010 USS Chicago CG-11, JAG 1:700 Scale, Built by Chen. Chih-Pang - This model is the JAG 1:700 scale kit of the USS Chicago CG-11 built by Chen.Chih-Pang. Added to the Cruiser Gallery. 
December 4, 2010 U-552, Type VIIC U-Boat, Revell 1:72 Scale, Built by Joe Brannin - These are pictures of Joe Brannin's U-552, Type VIIC, 1/72 scale U-Boat by Revell. He put a resin pressure hull in because he opened up all of the flooding holes and if someone were to look in they would see a hollow hull. Added to the Submarine Gallery. 

December 3, 2010 Sun Princess, Princess Cruise Liner, Scratch-Built in 1:200 Scale by Song Jung Gun - Song Jung Gun completed a model of the Princess Cruise Liner, Sun Princess. It is scratch-built in 1:200 scale, mainly from Ginko wood. Added to the Transport Gallery. 
December 2, 2010 USS Boston, Protected Cruiser, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale, Built by Felix Bustelo - Felix Bustelo's build of the Iron Shipwrights 1:350 Scale USS Boston was basically out of the box with a couple of exceptions. Added to the Cruiser Gallery. 
December 1, 2010 Kursk, Modern Russian Submarine, Tamiya 1:700 Scale, Built by Thierry Jacquemin - This is the 1/700 scale Tamiya " KURSK " kit by Thierry Jacquemin. He forgot to spray a gloss clear coat before applying the decals and the punishment came: silvering... It's not visible too much to the naked eye, but photographs are pitiless. It's his first attempt at creating a (very basic) sea base, done with a simple aluminum foil. Added to the Submarine Gallery. 
November 25, 2010 USS Monitor 1862. Cottage Industry Models 1:96 Scale, Built by David Nanberg - David Nanberg started with William Blackmore's excellent Cottage Industry Models 1/96 scale USS Monitor resin kit and constructed most of the interior below deck. November 23, 2010 HMS Repulse Brass Photo-Etch Set, Gold Medal Models 1:350 Scale - The Gold Medal Models brass photo-etched set for the 1:350 scale Trumpeter kit of HMS Repulse is an essential requirement for completion of the plastic time as a realistic replica. Not only does it provide far more detailed relief-etched parts than supplied in the kit, but also it supplies all of the parts that the Trumpeter kit lacks. November 22, 2010 Ayanami, Japanese Destroyer 1942, Pitroad 1:700 Scale, Built by Dan Kaplan - This is the PitRoad Ayanami kit in1/700 scale Fubuki Type II kits, modeled as Ayanami 1942, at the time of the Guadalcanal campaign. Ayanami was sunk November 14-15 during the one of the ferocious, close range night battles with US forces. Added to the Destroyer Gallery. 
November 21, 2010 Legionario, Italian Destroyer 1944, Scratch-Built in 1:200 Scale by Aldo Petrina - Here are photographs of the Regia Marina destroyer, Legionario, as she appeared in 1944 as a member of the Co-Belligerent Italian Navy. The model is 1:200 scale and was scratch-built by Aldo Petrina from Italy using yard plans that he was able to procure. Added to the Destroyer Gallery. 
November 20, 2010 Carnot, French Predreadnought 1905, Yumenato 1:700 Scale, Build Review by Jim Baumann - The 1/700 scale kit of the French predreadnought battleship Carnot from the low-volume Japanese resin producer Yumenatu is not without a number of problems. These are caused in the main by there being no (usable) plans in existence. The build by Jim Baumann shows her in August 1905 on way to the International Fleet Review at Spithead UK. Added to the Battleship Reviews Section. 
November 19, 2010 Admiral Graf Spee 1939, Heller 1:400 Scale, Built by Ted Bunn - Ted Bunn's Heller 1:400 scale Graf Spee was painted with Colourcoats paints from White Ensign Models. He also fitted her out with the dedicated WEM Photo-Etch set for this kit. L'Arsenal products include their resin crew figures set, oxygen and acetylene bottles and their Arado Ar-196 resin seaplane. The main and secondary brass gun barrels came from Modelmarine.de. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
November 18, 2010 USS England DE-635 Destroyer Escort, Trumpeter 1:350 Scale, Built by Chuck Bauer - DE-635, a Buckley-class destroyer escort, was named in honor of Ensign John C. England, who was killed in action aboard the USS Oklahoma during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor . This is Chuck Bauer's build of the Trumpeter 1:350 scale USS England. November 15, 2010 USN 5-Inch/25 (127mm) Gun Barrels, Master Model 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - Master Models has an impressive and growing inventory of barrels marketed in their Sea Masters Series in the two major scales - 1/350 and 1/700.  One of their more recent offerings is a set of 1/350 scale 5”/25 barrels sold in packages of 14.  These barrels were originally available only as part of their USS San Francisco set but they are now sold separately. Added to the Ordnance Reviews Section. 
November 14, 2010 HMS Repulse, Trumpeter 1:350 Scale, Built by Colin Swager - This is the HMS Repulse 1/350 scale kit by Trumpeter. Colin Swager  just completed model of this famous ship in her Mediterranean colours. She is painted in Tamiya and Humbrol flat enamels, coated with Tamiya clear flat spray. November 13, 2010 USS Illinois BB-7, Niko Model 1:700 Scle, Built by Bob Cicconi - This is Bob Cicconi's latest build, the 1/700 scale Niko USS Illinois, BB-7, circa 1901. The kit is out-of-the-box with caenis line and stretched sprue rigging and a flag from Tauro. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
September 15, 2010 Richelieu, September 1943, Trumpeter 1:350 Scale, Diorama by Louis Carabott - Louis Carabott wanted to portray the Richelieu from Trumpeter in 1:350 scale in a diorama in the New York Navy Yard  before leaving for Europe to join the home fleet at Scapa Flow after an extensive refit and trials in the East Coast. The battleship was painted in a Soft Edge MS-3X Camouflage utilizing USN Colours. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 

September 14, 2010 Oliver Hazard Perry Brass 76mm/62 Gun and Antennas, Master Model 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - The Academy 1/350 Scale plastic kit of the Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate was generally well received and it garnered very positive reviews. Injection-molded gun barrels and antennas typically are a little over scale due to the limitations in the process.  To help address this, Master Models has released a set comprising of a turned brass 76mm/62 OTO-Melara gun barrels and five antennas. September 12, 2010 USS Long Beach CGN-9, Revell, Box Scale, Built by Falk Pletscher - Falk Pletscher brings another "Blast from the Past" - Revell's USS LONG BEACH. This kit of 1960 vintage was originally released even before the real ship was commissioned. Added to the Cruiser Gallery. 

August 30, 2010 USS Brooklyn, USN Armored Cruiser, YS Masterpieces 1:350 Scale, Built by Peter Plattner - The location was Scale Model World 2004 in Telford... it was time. Peter Plattner bought three kits from YS Masterpieces in 1:350 scale; Averoff, Oregon and Brooklyn. All ships pre Word War One, all have tremendous character, all three kits of very high quality. After this heroic act of conscience and wallet damage Peter hid them from himself.... Fully fed and done with Christmas celebrations he retired to his study. There he had the joys of modeling solitude. Examining these kits is simply a pleasure. Here is his build of the USS Brooklyn. Added to the Cruiser Gallery.

August 22, 2010 HMS Sheffield Type 42 Batch 1 Destroyer, White Ensign Models 1:350 Scale, Built by Phil Reeder -  White Ensign Models produced a 1:350th scale kit of the Nottingham. This kit is of a batch 2 Type 42, whereas the Sheffield was a batch 1. Helped by a set of Jecobin plans of her Phil Reeder managed to alter the kit to batch 1 standard. August 14, 2010 USS Nevada, December 7, 1941, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale, Diorama by Jeff Sharp - Jeff Sharp built the 1:350 scale USS Nevada from Iron Shipwright to depict the battleship just before the air attack on the morning of December 7, 1941. She is shown in the traditional dark gray (5D) and light gray (5L) paint scheme with turret crowns painted to designate the ship within the division. Nevada is also sporting the false bow wave, which made her unique among the battleships that morning. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 
August 13, 2010 Variag at Macao, Zvezda 1:350 Scale, Diorama by Andrea Oneto - Andrea Oneto set the Imperial Russian protected cruiser Variag  in once Portuguese colony of Macao China during the cruiser’s courtesy visit. It is Sunday and on board near the bow the ship’s Chaplain (Pope) is getting ready one religious ceremony. Off to the side the Portuguese harbor patrol boat is intercepting Chinese smugglers. August 7, 2010 HMS Thunderer 1914, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Hanchang Kuo - This is Hanchang Kuo's Combrig 1/700 scale HMS Thunderer finished in her 1914 fit. This is an excellent kit but as usual Combrig's instructions weren't of much help. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
August 6, 2010 Minsk, Modern Russian Aircraft Carrier, Aoshima 1:700 Scale, Built by William Zammit - This is the 1:700 scale Russian aircraft carrier Minsk, produced by Aoshima and built by William Zammit of the United Kingdom. Added to the Aircraft Carrier Gallery. 
August 5, 2010 Shirayuki, Fubuki Type 1 Special Type, Pitroad 1:700 Scale, Built by Dan Kaplan - Pictured is Shirayuki, a Fubuki class Type I destroyer, from the PitRoad Fubuki kit, modeled in her early war fit as of March 1943 at the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, where she was sunk. The only notable change to her fit at that time was the replacement of her 7.5m motor launches with larger 10m, cargo type launches. Added to the Destroyer Gallery.

July 26, 2010 Bouvet, French Battleship, YS Masterpieces 1:350 Scale, Built by Bob Cicconi - Here are photos of Bob Cicconi's latest build, the YS Masterpieces 1/350 sclae Bouvet. It's a departure from Bob's normal 1/700 scale, but it was the only kit of the Bouvet available at the time. He built it out of the box except for the rigging. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
July 25, 2010 Belgian Navy Minesweeper Lobelia M921 Walk Around - During September 2009 New York City celebrated the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s arrival in what is now New York Harbor .  Hudson ’s ship, the Half Moon, sailed north along what the river that would bear his name. The Belgian Tripartite Class Mine Hunter Lobelia was present for the NYC anniversary and Felix Bustelo was welcomed aboard. Why just settle for a half moon when you can get a full moon by Felix. July 24, 2010 HMAS Perth 1942, NNT 1:700 Scale, Built by Norbert Thiel - On December 7, 1941 Japan went to war with the western powers to secure natural resources. With a total oil and steel embargo against Japan, the country would run out of critical raw materials unless she left China or secured the recourses elsewhere, primarily in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia). Defending the Dutch colony was a polyglot collection of forces call ABDA Force. Ships were present from America, Britain, Netherlands and Australia, hence the name. HMAS Perth was the Australian cruiser of the force. The entire force was demolished by the Japanese with HMAS Perth and USS Houston meeting their end at the Battle of Sunda Strait. NNT now has a 1:700 scale kit of Perth, as seen in this build by Norbert Thiel. Added to the Cruiser Gallery.

July 9, 2010 Kirov, Russian Missile Cruiser, Trumpeter 1:350 Scale, Built by Chuck Bauer - The model Chuck Bauer built represents the Kirov in its “late” phase, just prior to its nuclear accident, re-naming and decommissioning. The Trumpeter 1:350 scale kit accurately represents the major elements of the ship, and would make a decent model “out of the box.” Added to the Cruiser Gallery. 

July 8, 2010 July 2010 Mystery Model #2 - Yes, that's right, the second Mystery Model in the week. With the July Mystery Model 1, posted 05 July, Germa Coenders stated that mystery models have been few and far between. Well, here is another one and I'll help you guess the name, scale and manufacturer be letting you know that this is not the sister ship of the first Mystery Model for July. If you look closely, you'll notice some subtle differences between this model the one posted three days ago. They do ,however, have one thing in common but what is it?  Added to the Miscellaneous Gallery. No fair, an anonymous poster calling himself The Mole stated "Foxtrot class Soviet sub, 1:350 scale, Admiralty Model Works." Obviously an insider but correct and should be available at the Nationals.

July 4, 2010 USS Independence LCS-2 Littoral Combat Ship 2010, Cyber-Hobby/Dragon 1:700 Scale - Is it a Klingon Bird of Prey or a Federation Starship? The bridge of USS Independence LCS-2 has side by side positions for the OOD and Junior OOD. When asked why he likes to sit right behind these positions, the current captain of this futuristic ship said, “It’s because of Captain Kirk, of course!” Dragon has produced an excellent plastic and brass 1:700 scale model of this brand new ship that provides a lot of options for the modeler. July 3, 2010 Danton 1911 French Post-Dreadnought Pre-Dreadnought Mixed Gun Battleship, Combrig 1:700 Scale - The Danton was not a pre-dreadnought but a post-dreadnought design, in which the French chose to build a mixed armament battleship and rejected the all big gun layout of HMS Dreadnought but the ship had a greater displacement than the British battleship. The 1:700 scale Combrig Danton provides excellently produced resin and brass parts to model Danton in all her eight turret, five funnel, top hat cap glory. Added to the Battleship Reviews Section. 
June 29, 2010 HMVS Cerberus Breastwork Monitor, Combrig 1:350 Scale - The Combrig 1:350 scale HMVS Cerberus is an absolute gem with outstanding resin castings throughout. Cast in waterline format, when finished the modeler will have the only example of a breast-work monitor commercially available. The only disappointing factor of the lack of a brass photo-etched fret is mitigated by the fact that almost all brass parts are generic such as inclined ladders and railing. June 28, 2010 USS Ticonderoga CV-14, Trumpeter 1:700 Scale, Built by Mike Golden - This is Mike Golden's build of the Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS TICONDEROGA CV-14. There was some scratch building on hull side, such as fuel lines port side and hull re-enforcement on both sides of hull. Added to the Aircraft Carrier Gallery. 
June 21, 2010 HMAS Voyager 1964, 1:24 Scale, Scratch-Built by Ken Taylor - If you think that you have trouble with finding space for your models, how about this model of HMAS Voyager, which is in 1:24th scale scratch-built by Ken Taylor. That's right, 1:24th scale! It measures just over 16-feet (5m) long and tops out over 350 pounds (160kg). Added to the Destroyer Gallery. 
June 20, 2010 Gneisenau, Operation Berlin March 1941, Tamiya 1:700 Scale, Built by Gus Villanueva - Gus Villanueva built the 1:700 scale Tamiya Gneisenau to portray her as she entered Brest on 21 March 1941 at the conclusion of Operation Berlin , which was a very successful raid into the North Atlantic. June 19, 2010 Izmail, Imperial Russian Battle Cruiser, Combrig 1:700 Scale - The Combrig 1:700 scale Izmail is a large and striking kit. Armed with 14-inch/52 main guns, this Russian battle cruiser design had longer 14-inch guns than those found in any other navy. If it had not been for a twist of fate, they could have been ordered in 1911, instead of 1912, and completed shortly after the start of World War One. Four powerful Izmails and four Sevastopol class battleships would have certainly complicated the Baltic balance of power immensely. Combrig provides full resin and brass parts, excluding railing, to build a scale replica of one of the largest Imperial Russian warship ever launched. Added to the Battleship Reviews Section. 
June 15, 2010 HMS Erin 1915, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Kostas Katseas - This is the Combrig 1:700 scale HMS Erin, built by Kostas Katseas. The Erin was ordered from the Vickers Yard in 1911 by Turkey and Vickers designed a ship that packed quite a punch in a small size. Added to the Battleship Gallery.

Alan built the USS Van Valkenburg out of the Iron Shipwrights 1:192 scale Fletcher kit, which was a great kit with some nice photo-etch. Added to the Destroyer Gallery.

The scale is 1/350th and all construction was done with plastic sheet ,and spare parts. I used a set of Nexus plans in 1" = 8 feet. The 4.5 barrels were BMK  4.7" brass barrels. May 23, 2010 Prinz Eugen, Revell 1:720 Scale, Built by David DeLang - Here is something you don't see everyday, that ancient, ANCIENT mariner, the Revell 1:720 scale Prinz Eugen. Initially released in 1967, there have been very few sightings of this puppy since the release of the Tamiya 1:700 Prinz Eugen and the new Trumpeter 1:700 scale Prinz Eugen and Admiral Hipper kits. However, thanks to David DeLang you can now get into Mr. Peabody's "Way-Back" machine and dial back 40+ years when this kit was new and every new ship kit was a joy, because they were so few in number. May 22, 2010 HMS Roberts 1941, British Monitor, White Ensign Models 1:350 Scale - Dumpy, ungainly, wide of beam, if HMS Roberts was set up as a blind date, when asked “Well what does she/he look like?” you would have received the response, “Hey, she/he has great character.”  It is the character and those same ungainly lines that make the HMS Roberts so fascinating. May 12, 2010 USS Turner Joy DD-951, BaD Models and Scratch-Built in 1:96 Scale by Robert Rodriquez - USS Turner Joy DD-951 is a BaD Models kit , which Robert Rodriguez has modified and detailed out. He really likes this line of kits, as they are pretty good and they give him plenty of opportunity for detailing. The hull is plank on frame construction, and then fiber glassed. The superstructure was sheeted in .015 sheet plastic, the masts are plastic rod and as are the antenna arrays. Added to the Destroyer Gallery.

May 7, 2010 USS Chanticleer ASR-7, Submarine Rescue Vessel, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale, Built by Felix Bustelo - This is the USS Chanticleer ASR-7, one of the newer 1:350 scale kits from Iron Shipwrights that was released without any fanfare, which is a shame because it is a really good kit.   Like all Iron Shipwrights kits in 1:350 scale, they build into a great model out of the box and you can add extra details. May 6, 2010 HMS Caesar 1898, Last of the Majestic Class Battleships, Combrig 1:700 Scale - Now you can have William White’s wonder, the Majestic Class British battleship, which established the standard design for the British battleship for almost a decade. HMS Caesar was the last of the nine ships of the class and is different in barbette design and bridge location from the first six ships in bridge location and seven ships in barbette design. In total, 11 Daphne class subs entered service between June 1964 and March 1970. Felix Bustelo has a build review of the L'Arsenal 1:400 scale Daphne in his build of the kit as Venus. April 30, 2010 Fort Drum 1941, Concrete Battleship of Manila Bay, OKB Grigorov/Retrokit 1:700 Scale, Review by Peter Fulgoney -  The OKB Grigorov/Retrokit 1:700 scale Fort Drum represents a purpose made concrete “fort”, built on an island off Manila Bay to protect the harbour entrance. March 29, 2010 HMS Delhi 1942, British Light Cruiser, Scratch-Built in 1:350 Scale by Phil Reeder -  One ship in the Royal Navy that has always fascinated Phil Reeder was the Delhi. This was because she was equipped with USN 5"/38 cal guns and the Mk 37 fire-control system, similar that fitted in the US Fletcher class destroyers. March 28, 2010 USS Alaska CB-1, Samek 1:700 Scale, Built by James Kloek - This is Jim Kloek's  build of the Samek 1/700 scale USS Alaska.  This is a very nice resin kit which built up into what is a good looking model.  The build is pretty much out of the box, although Jim did replace the kit quad 40mm with the aftermarket guns from Niko, and the 20mm Oerlikons with photo-etch from Gold Medal Models. March 27, 2010 HMS Iron Duke 1916, Airfix 1:600 Scale, Modified & Built by Wes Beatty - This is the Airfix 1:600 scale kit of HMS Iron Duke. Wes Beatty tried to backdate the kit to circa. 1916.  The White Ensign Models photo-etched set was used.. The deck was replaced with scribed Evergreen styrene. It's a really nice kit, but for some reason there are no instructions whatsoever regarding the boat stowage racks, the photo-etched aft superstructure support, and several other items on the photo-etch fret. March 16, 2010 HMS Iron Duke 1918, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Kostas Katseas - Kostas Katseas has built the Combrig 1:700 Scale HMS Iron Duke in her 1918 fit with coffee pot search light towers. No longer the flagship of the Grand Fleet, since she was replaced by HMS Queen Elizabeth when Admiral Beatty became commander, replacing Admiral Jellicoe, the Iron Duke still exhibits the classic elegance of the British battleship at the height of her power. March 7, 2010 HMS Dainty 1934, White Ensign Models Glowworm 1:350 Scale, Built by Phil Reeder - This is Phil Reeder's build of White Ensign Model's 1:350th scale HMS Glowworm kit. He back-dated it to represent HMS Dainty, as she appeared in 1934. Phil used a  Norman Ough plan of the Daring to help him do this. Many minor alterations were made to some of the kit parts. March 6, 2010 Cunard Atlantic Conveyor 1982, Container Ship/Auxilliary Aircraft Carrier, NNT 1:700 Scale - The Cunard Atlantic Conveyor is the largest NNT effort to date. This ship was a key component of the Royal Navy strike force for the seizure of the Falkland Islands and her loss to an Argentine Exocet was one of the most severe blows suffered by the British in the campaign. NNT has produced a superb 1:700 scale Atlantic Conveyor with resin and photo-etch parts, full detail sheet and more aircraft on deck than either of the two British Aircraft Carriers. February 23, 2010 USS North Carolina 1942, Regia Marina 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Jim Kloek - These photographs are of Jim Kloek's build of the Regia Marina 1/700 scale resin kit of the USS North Carolina.  This is an excellent kit which provides parts and instructions for building the ship in any of its configurations from as launched to post-war. February 21, 2010 Bismarck, Swampworks 1:144 Scale, Built & Modified by Tim Quinlan - Here are pictures of Tim Quinlan's 1: 144th scale semi scratch- built model of the DKM Bismarck.  Tim's model started out as a combat model, but he lost interest in that venue, and decided to complete her as a high detail operating model. February 20, 2010 Admirable Class Minesweeper, Lindberg 1:125 Scale, Built by Joe Brannin - This is the Lindberg Minesweeper in 1/125 scale.  It is a good basic reproduction of an Admirable class minesweeper.  I sanded off all of the cast plated lines and used aftermarket parts. USS Arizona, Digital Navy 1:100 Scale, Resized from 1:250 Scale & Built by Mark Taylor - This is Digital Navy's USS Arizona in 1/100 scale. This is a paper model kit that is designed to 1/250 scale, but Mark Taylor had the inspiration to increase zoom to 250% and make the model similar in size to the 1/96 version that currently resides at the Arizona Memorial Museum . February 18, 2010 HMS Hood 15-Inch Gun Brass Barrels, Aber 1:700 Scale, Aber Sets L-08 & L-09 - Aber from Poland has produced two different sets of turned brass barrels for 1:700 scale HMS Hood kits. February 17, 2010 HMS Bellerophon, British Battleship 1909, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale - If you have been waiting for a worthy follow up for the 1:350 HMS Dreadnought kit, the Iron Shipwright HMS Bellerophon will certainly be your ticket. With two closely spaced tripods the Bellerophon has a more majestic profile than the Dreadnought with her single tripod. Although almost a repeat of the Dreadnought design, the presence of two tripods does create a significantly different look. Added to the Battleship Reviews Section.

February 8, 2010 Daphne, Modern French Diesel Submarine, L'Arsenal 1:400 Scale, Review by Falk Pletscher -  L'Arsenal has produced a nice 1/400 scale kit of the Daphne French medium-seize hunter-killer submarines, which served mainly in the Mediterranean . They were also exported to Portugal , Pakistan , and South Africa , and they were built under license in Spain . Review by Falk Pletscher. Added to the Submarine Reviews Section. 
February 7, 2010 John W. Brown, Trumpeter 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Marco Magrini - Marco Magrini built this diorama around the Trumpeter 1:700 scale John W. Brown. Other parts came from Sky Wave, Loose Cannon, an White Ensign Models. Photo-Etch was from Lion Roar, Eduard and White Ensign Models and paint was Gunze. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 
February 5, 2010 U-14 Austro-Hungarian Submarine 1916, U-Boat Laboratorium 1:350 Scale, Build Review by Felix Bustelo - On 20 December 1914, the French submarine Curie attempted to infiltrate the Austro-Hungarian naval base at Pola, only to be caught in the harbor defense nets.  She was forced to surface and was sunk by gunfire. She was raised, refitted and renamed U-14. In 1916, U-14 was fitted with new engines, given a German-style conning tower and had an 88mm deck gun mounted forward.  These changes not only dramatically changed her outward appearance; it also significantly improved her fighting capabilities. Under the command of Lieutenant Georg Ritter Von Trapp (of “The Sound of Music” fame) the U-14 was one of most successful submarines in the Austro-Hungarian fleet. The U-14 kit is the latest submarine kit from the St. Petersburg, Russia based U-Boat Laboratorium. Added to the Submarine Reviews Section. 
February 4, 2010 USN Twin 3-Inch/50 AA Open Mounts & MK-56 Directors. Veteran Models 1:700 Scale, VTM 70001 - Veteran Models products are of uniformly  superb quality. Item by item Veteran produces supremely detailed scaled weapons and fittings and their USN Twin 3-Inch/50 VTM 70001 mounts starts the fine tradition. Included are resin and brass parts for four of the twin mounts. The bases are spectacular and all resin parts are excellent. USS Gearing, Scratch-Built in 1:350 Scale by Pierre Marchal - Pierre Marchal prefers to scratch-build in 1:350 scale rather than to work on commercial kits. His subject of choice are the ships of the US Navy of World War Two, especially those that served in the Pacific. This is Pierre's build of USS Gearing, shown in three parts from the process through the final model on a water textured base. Added to the Destroyer Gallery. 
February 3, 2010 Hand Rails WWII, Flyhawk Model 1:700 Scale, FH 700096 - Flyhawk Model produces a photo-etch fret of generic hand or foot rails in 1:700 scale. USS Minneapolis 1943, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Built by Jim Kloek - The photos are of Jim Kloek's build of the Combrig 1/700 scale U.S.S. Minneapolis.  This is a very nice kit which represents the ship as she emerged from her mid-1943 reconstruction. Added to the Cruiser Gallery.

February 2, 2010 Aoba, Sunk at Kure 1945, Hasegawa 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Bob Cicconi - Here are some shots of  the Aoba sunk in the shallow waters of Kure Harbor late July, 1945. I did put the AA guns on as they weren't taken off until shortly after the final attack that sank her. I used the Hasegawa re-tooled Aoba. Added to the Diorama Gallery. 
January 24, 2010 Hermann Marwede, German Rescue Vessel, Revell 1:72 Scale, Built by Christian Groth - Here are pictures of the Revell kit in 1:72 scale of the German rescue vessel "Hermann Marwede" operating around Heligoland, German Bight. The ship is build out of the box by Christian Groth with some parts scratch-built like the handrails, the helicopter-deck, the props and so on. Added to the Auxiliary Gallery. 
January 23, 2010 German Kriegsmarine Deck Railing, Flyhawk Model 1:700 Scale, FH 700064 - With the Dragon and Trumpeter and Aoshima new mold Bismarck & Tirpitz kits, not to mention the new Trumpeter Admiral Hipper and Prinz Eugen kits in 1:700 scale, there certainly is a need for photo-etch railings for all of the new kits. Arsenal Ship CG-86, Jim Shirley Productions 1:700 Scale, Built by Nektarios Koufopoulos - These are some photos of the old Jim Shirley Productions of the what-if 1/700 scale arsenal ship CG-86, a design for a heavy SAM cruiser. January 21, 2010 PLA Type 33, Chinese Submarine, Hobby Boss 1:700 Scale, Built by Bob Cicconi - Here are photographs of Bob Cicconi's latest build, the Hobby Boss 1/700 scale PLA Type 33 submarine. Bob built it pretty much out of the box, except that he put a photo-etch antenna on the front sail,  changed the location of the whip antenna there, and cut out the six windows at the front of the sail. January 18, 2010 HMS LCI(L)-125, Iron Shipwright 1:350 Scale, Felix Bustelo - This is Felix Bustelo's build of the Iron Shipwrights 1/350 scale HMS LCI(L)-125 kit, which is a short bridge British-design LCI.  HMS LCI(L)-125 was manned by a Royal Canadian Navy crew with LT. Charles R. Parker RCNVR in command  at the Invasion of Normandy.  Added to the Auxiliary Gallery. 
January 17, 2010 Bismarck, Revell 1:350 Scale, Built by Katseas Kostas - Katseas Kostas' latest commission in 1/350 scale, the Revell Bismarck is a very nice kit and a definite improvement upon the old Tamiya kit. January 16, 2010 Admiral Graf Spee, Scratch-Built in 1:200 Scale by Shuki Aloni - This model from Shuki Aloni's collection is of the "Pocket Battleship" Admiral Graf Spee. It is made in 1:200 scale from scratch and from card board and balsa wood with some other materials. It took Shuki 4 weeks to build. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
January 14, 2010 USN WW2 Cruiser Cranes, Lion Roar 1:700 Scale R7060 - The label of Lion Roar photo-etch set R7060 states that the set is for 1:700 scale battleships. However, one quick glance at the instructions clearly shows that this stainless steel photo-etched fret is designed for 1:700 scale WWII USN heavy and light cruisers. I-400, Japanese Submarine, Tamiya 1:350 Scale, Built by Pappy Orion - This is the 1/350 scale Tamiya I-400 kit. Pappy Orion has added White Ensign Model's photo-etch railings as well as the Tamiya 1/350 scale plastic figures. Added to the Submarine Gallery.

Oslyabya, Ice Locked in the Baltic, Combrig 1:700 Scale, Diorama by Peter Fulgoney - No need to leave the warmth of your home to see to towering tumblehomed hull of the Imperial Russian battleship, Oslyabya. Peter Fulgoney has already done that for you with this diorama of the Combrig 1:700 scale kit of Oslabya in which the high freeboard of the battleship rises from the frozen Baltic like an iceberg. January 11, 2010 SMS Seydlitz 1916, WSW 1:700 Scale, Built by Norbert Thiel - These are shots of Norbert Thiel's finished WSW Seydlitz model. He have used his NNT gun barrels, his NNT  life buoys and boats from Kombrig. Norbert also changed the deck openings according to the 1916 appearance. Added to the Battleship Gallery. 
January 10, 2010 Modern German Class 122 Frigate Decals, NNT 1:700 Scale, Set D700-14 -  NNT produces a set of decals for the modern German navy Class 122 frigates in 1:700 scale. In this set, you get some common markings such as flight deck markings, warning circles, naval ensigns but the bulk of the sheet is composed of markings for the individual ships in the class. January 1, 2010 Mikuma 1938, Japanese Light Cruiser, Tamiya 1:700 Scale, Built by Claudio Matteini - Claudio Matteini shows the heights of detail that can be achieved with an older kit. He used the Tamiya 1:700 scale Mikuma, as built as a light cruiser with fifteen 6-inch guns, as the basis of the build. Then with an overwhelming quantity of after-market parts and copious scratch-building, Claudio converted a standard plastic kit into a museum piece. Added to the Featured Articles Section.
