This diorama depicts the moment before the impact of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri into the PT-109, commanded by John F. Kennedy, in August 1943. The Amagiri was made using the very old Tamiya 1:700 scale Fubuki destroyer kits Ayanami and Shikinami. There is very little information on Amagiri's appearance at this time so it was a best guess. I have used Tom's Modelworks IJN destroyer photo-etch set B, White Ensign Models IJN anti-aircraft photo-etch gun set for the triple and single 25mm guns and WEM Colourcoat paint, Kure grey. PT-109 is the WEM 1:700 resin kit complete with photo-etch and painted with Colourcoats MTB green. Both models have Gold Medal Models figures added with those on the PT-109 placed where the real crew were at the time of impact.
